Easy Pita Bread Recipe Pinterest

This easy pita bread recipe will help you make your homemade fresh batch of pitas whenever you want!

The pita dough is ready in just about 3 to 4 minutes in the stand mixer (plus about 10 minutes for the yeast to bubble), then it needs to double in volume in a warm place for about an hour.

This recipe is for 8 pitas of about 6 inches diameter (15 cm), you could make 6 if you want them larger.

Watch the pitas while they bake, as soon as they are completely puffed they are ready, about 3 to 4 minutes.

The pitas can be stored into a plastic bag for about 2 days, they can be frozen on a tray, then stacked into a plastic bag, thaw them a few minutes in your toaster.

Recipe :

Ingredients:

1 cup (240 ml) warm water

2 scant tsp (1 x 8 g. pocket) active dry yeast

1 tsp sugar

1 tbsp. olive oil

3 cups (360 g.) all-purpose flour

1 tbsp. kosher salt

Instructions:

Into a small saucepan or into your microwave, heat the water no more than up to 100°F (40°C), add the active dry yeast, sprinkle with sugar and set aside until the yeast is bubbly

Into the bowl of stand mixer fitted with dough hook, add the flour, yeast, salt and olive oil, knead on medium low speed until the dough is formed and the sides of bowl are clean, it only takes about 3 minutes, the dough should not be sticky

Form a ball and add the dough into a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel, set aside in a warm place to double in volume (I like to put it in my oven with just the light on), up to 1 hour

Pre-heat your oven at 480°F (230°C), sprinkle your counter with some flour and turn over the dough, press it down, shape it into a log and cut into 8 pieces, shape each piece into a ball then roll into a round flat disc, arrange as many discs you can on a wire rack and cover loosely with plastic wrap until ready to bake

Into the oven, watch the pitas puff as they bake, it only takes minutes, once completely puffed, remove them from the oven and place on a plate to cool, do not wait that they turn golden or they will be too dry

Proceed with the remaining batch, let cool completely

Once cooled, you can store the pitas into a plastic bag or you can freeze them on a tray, once frozen, stack them into a plastic bag, you can re-heat them just until thawed into a toaster
