Orzo and Turkey Stir Fry Pinterest

Orzo and turkey stir fry recipe, a delicious alternative to rice and quick weekday meal, make this recipe with any leftover meat, flavorful and delicious!

Orzo is a dry pasta that is quite hard as these little grains of pasta will cook for 9 to 10 minutes. I like my pasta al dente, therefore I cook it for 9 minutes sharp and I find that if you cook orzo longer, it tends to quickly get mushy.

Orzo comes in a smaller pack than other dry pasta but mind you, once cooked the volume of 1 pack cooked orzo will be the same as 1 pack cooked penne!

I really love orzo pasta, it is a delicious alternative to rice, you can cook it like a risotto, slowly with an addition of broth, add your broth cautiously so as not to overcook the orzo, or like any pasta in plenty of boiling water.

Here I had some leftover turkey and decided to make a stir fry with some carrots, onion and orzo. A quick but flavorful weekday meal made in under 45 minutes.

This recipe will be as good with any leftover meat or ham.

Recipe :


3 cups (1 pack – 454 g.) orzo, cooked as per instructions on the pack

1 onion, chopped

2 large carrots, peeled, cut in small chunks

10 oz. (300 g) leftover turkey, diced in small cubes

1 cup (100 g.) grated parmesan

A pinch of cayenne

Salt and pepper to taste

Some olive oil


Into a large pan, heat 2 or 3 tbsp. olive oil, add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, add the carrots, season with salt and pepper, a pinch of cayenne, add a little bit of water, just to cover the bottom of the pan and simmer until the carrots are soft and tender

Add the cooked orzo and parmesan, toss to re-heat until the parmesan is creamy and melted, taste and adjust seasoning

Add the turkey, toss to incorporate, sprinkle some parsley or basil
