Easy (no machine) mango granita, delicious!

To make your own shaved ice mango granita is quick and very easy, you only need a little water, some sugar and good fruits.

Besides, homemade shaved ice made with fresh fruits tastes so much better than the store-bought ones that are generally made out of syrup or concentrate…

  • Preparation: 20 minutes
  • Freezing Time: min 6 hours up to 10 hours
  • Cost: €
  • Difficulty: ♥
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients :

Sugar syrup**:

  • 3/4 cup (90 grams) granulated white sugar
  • 1/2 cup (110 grams) water

Mango puree :

  • 16 ounce (450 grams) of fresh or frozen mango
  • 1 lemon

Recipe :

  • Place the sugar and water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Let the mixture boil for one more minute. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • Next, puree the mango into a food processor or blender.
  • Pour the pureed mango into a plastic container, add juice of 1 lemon and syrup, stir well.
  • Freeze for a minimum of six hours, after one hour, drag the tines of a fork back and forth across the melon preparation every ½ hour. Take out of freezer about 20 minutes and drag with a fork before serving.

**If your fruits are sweet enough, you can easily reduce the sugar input, do know though that adding sugar will enhance the taste of your fruit popsicles and give them a softer texture, whereas adding less or no sugar will give sort of an « ice cuby » texture to your sorbets.

Enjoy !
