Almost anything homemade comes out cheaper and will help you save a few dollars on your shopping. It’s the case with homemade peanut butter plus it will take you about all of 15 minutes to make it plus it will be all natural!
What is peanut butter?
Peanut butter is obtained by processing peanuts in a food processor until they release their natural oil and transform into a paste. No actual butter is needed to make peanut butter. In my recipe I add a little bit of vegetable oil to make it creamier and easily spreadable.
To make your own peanut butter, you may use either raw peanuts or unsalted roasted peanuts, a little honey if you want to sweeten it and 2 or 3 tsp of vegetable oil to make it creamier.
Tip: If you are using raw peanuts, it’s better to roast them for about 10 minutes in a 400°F (200°C) oven, that’ll help soften them and release their oil more easily.
You can consume this peanut butter as a spread and in your baking, please check these recipes:
This recipe makes a little over 1 1/4 cup peanut butter and will last up to two weeks in your refrigerator, you can up or lessen the ingredient quantity according to your family consumption.
2 cups (260 g.) unsalted roasted peanuts
1 tsp honey or to taste
A pinch of salt
2 to 3 tsp vegetable oil
Into the bowl of a food processor, add the peanuts, pinch of salt and honey to taste, skip honey if you don’t want to sweeten your peanut butter, process for about 10 minutes or until the peanuts have transformed into a slightly runny paste, stop processing now and then to scrape the sides and bottom of bowl, that will give your food processor a little time to cool
Add up to 3 tsp of vegetable oil to make the peanut butter creamy and spreadable, taste in between each addition
If you like your peanut butter chunky, add about 1/4 cup of peanuts to a freezer bag and bang them with a rolling pin, add to the peanut butter and mix with a spatula
