Homemade puff pastry pizza pinwheels are a delicious and costless snack, made in a jiffy with just a few ingredients, they’re always a crowd pleaser!
When I’m having guests, I like to make loads of assorted puff pastry snacks, they’re always a success and gone as soon as I put them on the table.
There are so many shapes and flavor combos to make, the ooey gooey cheesy ones are always first to go.
How to make these easy puff pastry pizza pinwheels:
I got 20 pinwheels out of my puff pastry sheets, the yield will depend on brands and sizes of puff pastry available in your area.
2 frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
3/4 cup smooth tomato sauce (passata)
2 large mozzarella balls, diced in small chunks
2 tbsp. dry basil (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Pinch of Cayenne
Pre-heat your oven at 400°F (200°C), line a baking sheet with parchment paper
Roll each puff pastry sheet into a 10 x 12 inch (25 x 30 cm) rectangle, trim the edges to sharpen them
Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce all over leaving a 1 inch rim empty, sprinkle salt and pepper to taste, some Cayenne and the basil, sprinkle the mozzarella in an even layer
Starting from the long side, roll out tightly into a log, wrap into some plastic wrap and chill 30 minutes
Trim both ends of the log for nicer slices, cut into 1 inch thick slices and lay them flat on the baking sheet leaving a 2 inch space in between
Into the oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden, let cool completely before serving
These pizza pinwheels can be made a few hours ahead, they are best the day they’re made
