Easy Cod Burgers Pinterest

Easy cod burgers recipe, cod patties are made with veggies and aromatic herbs, delicious in sandwiches and sliders or simply served with a salad and chips!

In Summer I like my burgers lighter and making them with fish or seafood is absolutely delicious.

Cod is perfect for fish cakes, it is flaky and mild, all the aromatics mixed in the patties bring it to another level of flavors, my husband and son gave me a special mention for them.

I like to serve these cod burgers with a quick tartare sauce made of well seasoned mayo with chopped chive and dill pickles.

How to make these easy cod burgers:

  • I used frozen cod fillets, completely thawed and pat dry, use fresh cod if you can
  • I like to chop the cod with a sharp kitchen knife, it’s easy and doesn’t take so long, cut your cod in strips, like 3 strips out of a fillet, cut the strips in chunks and then bang the chunks into small pieces. In doing so, your patties will have some texture which is nice, add the cod mash to a bowl and refrigerate until ready to use
  • In a medium frying pan, heat some olive oil and fry one chopped bell pepper and onion until soft, you can add some celery to the mix, set aside to cool
  • Add to the bowl of cod, add the spices, herbs, egg, breadcrumbs and stir thoroughly until all the ingredients are incorporated, chill at least 30 minutes so all the flavors can meld and the breadcrumbs are softened
  • In the meantime, make the tartar sauce, add 1 1/2 cup mayo to a bowl, season it with black pepper, a pinch of Cayenne, a pinch of salt, 1/4 cup chopped chives and a few chopped dill pickles
  • Form your patties with a large ice cream scoop, very handy to make them even, form balls pressing them well between your hands, flatten them with a large spatula, pan fry 4 minutes on each side

Check the recipe for my dinner rolls/burger buns here, for burger buns follow the instructions and flatten the buns to 1 inch thick before the second rise.

These cod patties are delicious in burgers but also simply served with a side of salad and chips.
